• when I search for e.g. ‘bus’, i get a bunch of relevant results, but towards the end i get results that appear to include search breadcrumbs.

e.g. last entry on page 1:

    About us
    Home ? Results for bus
About us Our History Our masterplan Citipointe Campus Our History? Born out of the faith and hope of the Christian Outreach Centre (COC), the…

The results on page 2 all have this as well.

Love to hear your thought on why this is displaying this.

Relevanssi doesn’t index the breadcrumb. It’s not possible, the breadcrumb would not say “search results for ‘bus'” when Relevanssi indexes the post. The “About us” page has the word “Business” in it.

Often, the breadcrumb is a template element that Relevanssi can’t see. However, if the breadcrumb is in the post, Relevanssi can use it for the excerpt.

The solution is to use the relevanssi_excerpt_content filter hook to remove the breadcrumb from the post before Relevanssi creates the excerpt.
