    Hello,

we currently use the x accel redirect method (nginx) on our store to server our digital downloads (large files 10+ GB). However some of our customers have problems, their download aborts at around 1 GB, for some it works perfectly. The problem of course is the downloads can’t be paused/resumed, is there a way to activate it, so if something happens the customer can just resume the download and doesn’t have to start from the beginning?

    Best regards

    Hi @exxis,

This starts to get into a networking sort of territory and my understanding is that once the download has begun from the external server, WooCommerce itself really plays no role from that point on.

There could be a number of reasons that would cause a download to abort:

    – Momentary network drops local to your machine.
    – Network problems or limitations between the machine and the download server.
    – Automated systems on the download server ending downloads, e.g. bandwidth limits/monitoring.

There could be several factors involved there, and since we can only really help with WooCommerce itself, I’m not sure how much we can really assist here. My thinking, again, is that once the download is started, WooCommerce isn’t really involved at all at that point.

It would probably be a good idea to use a service such as Amazon AWS S3 which gives you room for better scalability, offers more reliability, especially when serving big files, and greater download speeds for your customers.

If you’re interested, we have our own Amazon S3 Storage extension on the WooCommerce.com marketplace.

    Hope this helps.

Well to me it seems this is something woocommerce related since woocommerce offers the option to send the files via x-accel redirect. Redirecting me to another plugin and to an expansive cloud solution is not the way to solve it.

I’m not sure why you might think it is related to WooCommerce itself, as mentioned above, once the download is initiated from the server, WooCommerce plays no role from that point on.

If you haven’t already, I can also suggest you get in touch with your hosting provider as they may have more context to help you with this issue.

Often, it could also be another plugin interfering with the download process and causing trouble, but we can’t verify that, the folks at your host should be able to check the server logs and find out if that’s the case.
