• I installed Page Links To on my blog and everything works as advertised. However, I would still like the ability to link directly to one of my posts from Facebook or Twitter. I used to do that by using each post’s permalink. Now that I have your plugin installed, the original URL redirects to the page I’m linking to and as far as I can tell there is no way to bring up a single page with the post content.

Is there a way to disable the automatic redirection of people that go to the old (or “normal”) URL? So in other words, the post title would still link to the new URL, but if someone types in the old permalink it would bring up the post on its own rather than redirecting directly to the new address.

If this was an option on a post by post basis that would be ideal.

  • Hi kakgungor,

I am wondering if you have found a solution meanwhile. That’s exactly the problem I want to solve, too.

I want to add a link to the “normal” URL in the RSS-Feed below the post so readers have the possibility to go to the website first.

    Regards

In the end, I stopped using the plugin and started relying on a custom variable. I then modified my templates to check if there is a custom var set and if so it replaces the page title link with the URL stored in the custom variable. WordPress still creates the usual post with its usual permalink, so I can provide users with a link to each post on my site.

It was a bit of work, but works great for me now. I hope this helps, and check out AKGUNGOR.com for a working example.

    Hi Kent,

Thank you for the prompt reaction and information! Your blog is very interesting and I added your feed to my reader. You’re doing that in a great way!

Curating and commenting things of interest like you (or Daring Fireball) does is exactly what I want to do too.

I still use the page-links-to-plugin on my blog kuratr.de. But like you before I see no way in providing the original URL.

I would really appreciate it if you can explain me how to adjust the templates to get the same solution like you have for your blog and your feeds.

Thank you very much for your efforts – you made my day!

Kent, if it is easier and ok for you, you can send me your individualized templates over and give me some advice where the changes are made. I hope I will be able to adapt them for the needs of my blog. Everything is almost similar, except the ? and ? ;-).

    Hi Kent,

are you able to demonstrate how you did this? I’m keen to have it on my blog too. I’m currently using the plugin, but it’s frustrating that I can’t use the blog entry permalink to post on Twitter, Facebook or in email to friends etc.

    Best,

    CDC

    @channelcast and @copydeskcat,

I’ve put together a tutorial on how I accomplished my custom title links. You can read it here: https://akgungor.com/2013/11/17/custom-title-links-wordpress/
