Retard Needs Help with Links System

Version WordPress 0.71
Hello could some one explain to me in something other than php-niese, how to separate the links categories I have already read the documentation at https://www.ads-software.com/development/archives/38, but I’m still not “getting it” when i input the php I get the error “Call to undefined function: get_links_list()”
O’ve read all the post on links but none explain in newbie non php lingo what I should be doing to implement this . I am a visual learner and I learn best by example. What I am trying to do is separate 3 link categories i.e.
Menu
.link 1
Friends
.link 1
links
. link 1
My question is how? Please explain abc/123 as I haven’t quite grasped php yet.
