• Hello,

I’m in the process of building my site through www.ads-software.com, under “https://localhost:8888/mydomainname” through MAMP. When I’m on that URL, I have access to my Dashboard and everything else.

However, my domain name is registered with GoDaddy, and when I enter my domain name in a URL bar, nothing shows up (which is expected). How do I connect my localhost:8888/mydomainname to my domain registered in GoDaddy? I spoke with a representative from GoDaddy earlier today, and I was told that I needed to find the Nameservers, IP address, URL, etc. to put into my Nameservers on GoDaddy.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

You do NOT want the rest of the world to be able to access your localhost site! Home systems are not “hardened” like servers meant to have access to the outside world. So please, ignore what the people from GoDaddy told you. I have to believe they misunderstood what you were asking…

In any case, it is possible for you, and only you, to access your localhost site using your domain name. It will require changes to your MAMP Apache configuration to set up a virtual host, and then a minor change to your home system to map your localhost install to the domain name you obtained from GoDaddy.

I’d suggest asking the MAMP folks for instructions to set up an Apache virtual host in MAMP. If they have documentation for the procedure, I’m sure it will also include documentation for changing the HOSTS file on your home system.

    Hi Austin,

You need to ask your registrar Godaddy to point your domain to your name server. Or you can ask Godaddy to point your A record. Then, you will be able to access your site
