• I’ve just set up a new theme on my site. It utilizes the Featured Images feature to add thumbnails to posts.

My old theme used Timthumb to do this. So, there is an image placed into every single post.

I want to retroactively go back and turn on the featured image for every single post, but I’d like to not have to do this manually. I’m wondering if there is a plugin that can take the first image in a post and assign it to the featured image slot? I’ve done some searching but currently can’t find something to do this.

  • You can try the Simple Image Grabber and/or WP-Auto Image Grabber. One is bit outdated but it seems to work on 3.0.4 without issues. Another one is something new.

The Easy Add Thumbnail plugin is the ONLY one that I could get to actually add thumbnails (e.g. featured images) to my posts.

I have my posts set up with manually typed HTML image links and this plugin automatically pulls the first image URL in the post and adds it as the posts featured image.

Just thought others who stumble on this thread might be interested. ??
