• Hello, We are changing our domain and server space but want to use the same database that is already set up. I have copied all the files to the new space and kept the config file the same … will this work ok with the old database now/is it an advisable way to do this?
Many thanks for your help, G

It should work just fine, as long as the wp-config.php file references the same database. You’ll also need to change the site and home URLs in the database, or you won’t be able to log in.

Thank you Macmanx. I have read those guides you suggested. Thanks.

It is more complicated that I thought it would be. I guess I will try using phpmyadmin. Export the database. Set up a new database and import the old data and then change any reference to the old url to the new one. And of course have my fingers crossed.

No need to export the database, really. ??

Just switch those URLs, then tell the files at the new location to reference the old database. It’s best to not move the database if you don’t have to.
