• Just to see how things might have changed in NextGEN, I activated it and deactivated the Nextcellent Gallery. However, all the displays broke with a message that said the gallery was missing. In NextGEN, I can go to manage galleries and see them all and work with each. However no thumbnails display in the posts. I cannot insert a gallery to display in a post I am in the process of writing when NextGEN is active, it does not see any of them although manage galleries function works fine.

    There are two possibilities:
    1. Something has changed in NextGEN gallery which no longer sees the old DB tables
    2. Something has changed in Nextcellent Gallery that alters the old DB tables
    3. Maybe a combination of the two

I am writing here to report the behavior in case you know what is going on and can steer me in a direction to maintain compatibility. I have also posted on Nextcellent support forum.

    Thank you

  • @acekin, there’s no compatibility between the two plugins, and you can’t work with both of them.

It is a bit cloudy area. On a test bed site I maintain, I can switch back and forth with not problems. But, there I have very limited number of galleries. On my main site there are over 300 galleries. I think there is at least some level of compatibility, but how much. I wonder if Photocrati would like to shed some light on this. I may, after all, switch back to NextGEN.

I have exchanged e-mails with Photocrate and they were willing to go in and look at my installations. While waiting I have tried different things to see if I could fix the problem. Just a short while ago I did the following:
    1. My original gallery folder was under /uploads/gallery, I made a copy of it under /wp-content
    2. I uploaded NGG 2.0.61 and activated it
    3. I checked the behavior of the galleries only to find that they were still not working in posts
    4. I also noticed some options missing on various settings screens
    5. I pulled up enough nerve to click the button to reset all the settings to their defaults (ugh, gulp!)
    6. Lo and behold, NGG 2.0.61 started working

There are some settings that I need to change, but I can tend to them whenever I have time. I am not suggesting that you try these steps, it may or may not work for you. But it worked for me.

Thanks to NGG team for their willingness to work with me.
