Reverting to a different theme

I am wanting to try a new theme, and spend some time customizing it. But can I then go back to the theme I am currently using without losing its customization, etc.? And would I do this simply by selecting it?

Yes. Yes.

You may, after changing themes, have to re-assign widgets to sidebars if the theme(s) in between did not have corresponding sidebars. In such cases, they’re moved to “inactive widgets”.

Thanks! Where would I find inactive widgets? And simply making them active will not do the job, according to what I understand from your response?

Hi merlin4539,

You can select any theme and customize it. But if you select new theme then all customization related to layout will be lost. If you created the menu, the widget will be there only its look and feel will be changed as per the theme.

If widget will be disappear as per theme then you have to simply add them again.

Look under appearance->widgets.

All customizations will not be lost! Anything added via the customizer will return with the theme and unless you delete files, nothing file related will be lost.

Thanks again, Steve, for the reassuring info! I have done a fair amount of customizing of the Sunspot .css files, and am using a child so as not to lose this when the theme is updated.

I am wanting to play around with a few photography-oriented themes, as most of my blog posts have lots of photographs and might work better with one of them as opposed to Sunspot. But I am wanting the option of reverting, and so very glad this will be easy.
