• Hi,

I can’t find any reference to such an option on Google, so thought to suggest it.

Archive pages are very important for SEO on my site. I’m constantly changing the description (the built-in field, after Name and Slug). Having revisions saved automatically would be a big help.

Maybe it is something worth considering.

    Thanks,
    Asaf

  • There is no actual page stored in the database for archive pages. The plugin you use for SEO has an entry obviously, but that is all. Anything you want to see changed for that should be directed at the plugin’s support forum.

I’m not talking about any plugin. I’m talking about the native “Description” field for archive pages.

I guess it won’t change the answer. But again, it is a built-in feature so maybe it is something to think of.

Your screenshot indicates you are using a plugin for the taxonomy description field, because by default it is a simple textarea, not a rich text editor.

The items stored in the posts table of the database, like Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types, Attachments, etc. can have revisions because that table has a status field that is used to indicate what the entry is for. A revision is a copy of a record, with a revision status, and the parent column pointing to the original.

But the taxonomies are stored in a different table of the database, and there is no column for status and the parent column is for hierarchical taxonomies. The description is one of the columns.

    Thank you for the explanation.

I understand that the infrastructure is different than a real page. Anyway, it is a content field, and as such, it can benefit from revisions history. Maybe, if more people find it helpful besides me, the infrastructure can be changed in the future to allow it.

    Thanks again for the explanation.
