My team has been using the Revisions plugin to schedule revisions/updates to pages for dates in the future so we can republications with modifications of our content to keep our feed live with updates even during the busy summer months while traveling.

After taking some time off we came back to view the revisions queue and saw a dozen “Missed Schedule” notices in the posts listed in the revisions queue, so it appears that many of the updates did not get posted as scheduled.

I admittedly jumped right into leaving a negative review because I did not expect to receive support for a plugin I am not paying for based on past experiences. I am frustrated that the work we did ahead of time didn’t get actioned as planned due to some sort of error. How can we ensure that our revisions do not experience the “Missed Schedule” error in the future?

Upon revisiting the Revisions queue the list of “Missed Schedule” posts are no longer there, so unfortunately I do not have a screenshot or live link of active errors to share. Thanks in advance.

Hi @budgetsavvybride. Thanks for using PublishPress Revisions. We’ll be happy to help.

I’ll ask our team to dig in and get this resolved for you.

While I do that, can I ask you to remove that review, please? That will allow us to move forward confidently with the support.

    Hi @budgetsavvybride

Sorry to hear about your issues. We would love to help you tackle this issue.

Could you please let me know if you’re using a caching plugin? Missed schedules are often caused by issues with WP Cron not running correctly, and caching plugins are a common culprit.

    Thanks,

I don’t see a way to remove the review, only option is to update it. Once the issue has been resolved, I am happy to update the review.

We do use Cloudflare on the site. If there is something we can edit adjust with the settings to keep this from happening, let me know.

@budgetsavvybride Cloudflare should not be the issue. Could you please install the WP Crontrol plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-crontrol/) and check the upcoming scheduled revisions? This will help you see if they are running correctly or if there’s an error.

Let me know how it goes.

I installed that plugin you mentioned, but what should I be looking for that would tell me whether or not there is an issue with upcoming scheduled revisions?

    (@rizaardiyanto)

@budgetsavvybride Once you installed that plugin, you should be able to find “Cron Events” submenu on Tools menu. If you have scheduled revisions, you should be able to see something like this:

I create a test scheduled revisions for 7 days ahead, so as it shows on the screenshot, it scheduled for Aug 22.

That means, the cron is created just fine.

yes I can see a scheduled revision in both my revisions queue and the cron events list, but how do I determine the reason why my previously scheduled revisions ‘missed schedule’ ?

    Plugin Support Riza Maulana Ardiyanto

    (@rizaardiyanto)

@budgetsavvybride You couldn’t check the past cron at the moment.

However, If you could see the cron created there, it means our plugin is then it’s most likely the wp cron is not working correctly which cause the missed schedule.

Scheduled Revision publication is triggered by WP Cron, which requires a site request to be passed through to normal PHP script execution, and for some site, there is a case where WP Cron does not run correctly. I suspect your site is one of them.

In this case, I would recommend to setup a real cron instead of depending on WP Cron. Here is a guidance on it: https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/scheduling-cron-jobs/#h-alternatives-to-wp-cron

You could send that guidance to your hosting provider, and they should be able to setup a real cron on your server.

@budgetsavvybride Have you had a chance to check my suggestion above yet?

Honestly, this is a bit over my head so I’m going to need to bring in a developer to look into this.

@budgetsavvybride Sure, you could send my suggestion above to your developer and they can let us know if the issue persists.

@budgetsavvybride Let me know if your developer says anything about it. We would love to help you solve this issue.

@budgetsavvybride While waiting for your developer’s feedback, do you mind to revise your review in the meantime: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/many-revisions-missing-schedule-whats-the-point/ ?

It seems the issue mentioned in the review—revisions missing their scheduled times—isn’t related to our plugin, but rather to a cron-related issue on your site. We strive to ensure our plugin functions smoothly, and since this issue is outside of our control, it would be great if you could update your review to reflect that.

We truly appreciate your understanding and support, and we’re always here to help if you encounter any issues!
