When we rewrite and republish content on our site using the Duplicate Post plugin, we notice that the plugin is adding a -2 to the slugs of the rewritten articles that are scheduled for publication. We want these articles to inherit the original slug for the article, but every time we try to remove the -2 from the slug and save the change, it reverts back.

For example, the original post slug might be /health-benefits-of-fasting, and the rewrite’s slug will be /health-benefits-of-fasting-2.

Will this -2 go away after the post is republished?

    Please advise. Thank you!

    Hi @webadmin92

We apologize for not being able to get back to you sooner regarding this.

Yes, when you use the rewrite & republish function on an already published post, it should create a new draft and it’s expected to have the “-2” at the end of the slug for that draft. Once you’ve made your changes and when you schedule or click on the republish button, it’s expected that it would then be published under the original slug (without the “-2” at the end).

You can learn more about it here – https://yoast.com/rewrite-republish-article-with-yoast-duplicate-post/
