rewrite pdfs from uploads folder on multisite

I have a pdf that was deleted, and I want to redirect the link to my home page or another pdf. I adding a redirect for the pdf to go to my main site, but I am unable to get the redirect to work. Any Idea how I can redirect a pdf?
