Rewrite rules structure

It would be great if there was a way to customize the WP_Rewrite structure in “classes.php” because each time I upgrade, I have to edit the file again.

For example, I change “var $author_base = 'author';” to “var $author_base = 'auteur';” because my WP is in french.
