Rewriting category base href?

  • I’ve got a confusing problem with one of my new sites..

    I have various parent categories and sub-categories assigned to each. When I link to domain.com/cat1/, everything goes as planned.

    But when I click on domain.com/cat1/subcatofcat1/ I am shown a 404 error page..

    It’s forcing me to link to domain.com/CATEGORY/cat1/subcatofcat1/ for some reason I am unsure of. Does anyone know why and/or how to correct this? I’ve tried changing the category option at the bottom of the permalinks section of the admin panel to / and it does nothing.

    Any ideas?
