The bank receipt (also called RI.BA. or simply Riba) is a banking collection service that allows creditor companies to collect their invoices through the network of bank branches. It is a financial instrument used for business management, open to all, with which the creditor declares to be entitled to receive from the debtor (by showing supporting documents) a sum of money paid by bank to balance a specific invoice and authorizes the bank to collect the amount indicated, according to the instructions given by the customer.
The operation differs from the bank discount in that the customer does not transfer his credit to the bank, but only gives it a rem mandate for collection, accompanying it with the receipted payment receipts.
The bank, in turn, makes the relative amount available to the customer (if he has entered into a bills advance contract subject to collection), by crediting the current account (or using a dedicated credit line), without waiting for the expiry date and the collection from the third party debtor, remaining irrevocably protected by the mandate to collect for the recovery of the credit thus granted to your customer.
Process of operation of a bank receipt:
the creditor completes the bank receipt at the same time as the invoice and delivers it to his bank;
the bank of support of the creditor sends the document, affixing a “currency for collection” endorsement as if it were a bill, to the bank of support of the debtor;
the latter sends the debtor a notice of payment (usually a photocopy of the same receipt);
the debtor, having received the notice, goes to the bank branches at the established deadline, makes the payment and collects the bank receipt which, being already signed by the creditor, functions as a receipt document;
the bank that collected the collection notifies the other bank of the collection.
the debtor’s support bank credits the amount to the creditor’s bank account.
