    Hi,
there is a problem with the way product descriptions are synced to facebook.

    1. The custom facebook description input field is basically useless if you want your description to be more than one line, as it does not accept any formatting whatsoever, not even line breaks. This makes the description look completely unstructured on facebook and instagram.

    2. If I select the short description to be used, its a little better because there are line breaks. But the description on fb and instagram still looks messy because new lines get indented where bullet points were on woocommerce.
Changing the markup on our website to plain text just so it displays correctly on fb and instagram is not an option.

    3. If I select the standard description to be used, the description on facebook and instagram is completely destroyed because it shows all shortcodes and formatting from woocommerce as plain text.

Facebook does accept rich text formatting in feeds, as stated here:

“If you use a data feed to manage your items, add the optional rich_text_description field to your feed to use rich text and HTML formatting in your description, such as bullet points or multiple paragraphs. This can help make your description easier to read, especially if it’s longer than 200 characters. You must still include a normal description as a fallback.”

Please share a workaround or include a rich text field in the plugin!
It must be possible to have the product descriptions displayed properly on facebook and instagram.

    Hey there @dlf123,

Currently, there’s no way to enable rich text or HTML tags in the descriptions sent to Facebook. HTML is stripped from the description. You can see that mentioned in the Facebook for WooCommerce documentation here. To provide some clarity, you are using the Commerce Manager, not the Feed, which have different capabilities.

    Hi @piratepenpen ,
    thanks for the reply.
I’m aware that html is stripped if entered in the standard description field or pulled from the woocommerce desription.
However, I was assuming that the plugin is basically generating a feed and sending it to facebook, so it would be possible to add the rich_text_description field, which is also mentioned in the Facebook for Woocommerce documentation.

As a workaround, is it possible to upload a feed in addition to using the plugin so we can use the richt_text_desription field?

    Hi again @dlf123,

The rich_text_description field is not available by default with Facebook for WooCommerce.

While it is possible to modify Facebook for WooCommerce to help you achieve this goal, this is not something that we can support. Per our support policy, customizations are outside the scope of the support we can offer, but we have a customizations page if you’d like to contact a developer for help. You can also ask about this on the WooCommerce Slack Community or WooCommerce FB group, which are great places for customization questions like this.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any further questions!
