• Hey everyone,

Since installing WordPress on my Yahoo account, I have not been able to figure out how to remove the /blog that sometimes appears in the address bar when clicking around the site. I tried fixing this issue from the dashboard, but to no avail. Any suggestions? It’s an issue because it’s affecting my blogrolling stats – people are linking to me via: https://www.almostfiction.com/blog instead of simply: https://www.almostfiction.com

    Thanks in advance,

    -Mike

  • Go to Options->General. Ensure that the WordPress and Blog URI both point to almostfiction.com without the “/blog”.

I was going to try that a while ago, but when I attempted, it said:

“Warning: Modifying this field will cause your permalinks to malfunction. We strongly recommend that you do not change this field.

Please note that this field should match the web address of your blog installation directory. If you chose to make your blog your home page when you installed WordPress, your blog was automatically configured to display at your domain. You should NOT change the value of this field to match your domain.”

During my initial installation, I must have missed the part where they gave me an option of making my blog my homepage. Is there anything I can do now to rectify this mistake?

Had you ever installed the blog under the /blog subdirectroy? Presumably, you had run the installation there.

You can change the URI and see what happens, worse comes to worse, you can use phpMyAdmin to go into the database and revert the URI if things don’t work out.

    Cypher,

Really bad news. I did just that – I changed the URI and now I can’t change it back. When I changed it and realized that it messed up the site, and I went to change it back, and now I can’t access any portion of my dashboard. Somehow when I changed the URI everything got screwed up. Now my entire blog is down and I have no way to fix it.

    Can anyone help?

Do you have access to phpMyAdmin on your host? If so, use that to go into the wp_options table and look for the “siteurl” entry and change the value back to what it should be.

Cypher, thank you for the quick response. I followed your directions, unfortunately I don’t have the technical know-how to understand what to change. Here’s what I see when I open up options-general.php. What exactly do I change?

    edit CLIPPED CODE

Probably don’t want to change anything there.

Check out this article on how to restore your site uri entry: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

It looks like that’ll do it. But I don’t know how to get to phpMyAdmin. I’m a total novice at this sort of thing.

If you have SSH access, perhaps my reply in this post will help:

I don’t understand any of that SSH stuff. It’s Greek to me. But if I could find out how to access phpMyAdmin, I think I’ll be set.

HandySolo – all fixed! I installed my phpMyAdmin program on Yahoo Webhosting, followed the directions off that site you gave me, and now everything works!

Thank you everyone for your help. It means a lot to me. ??

    Good deal — happy blogging!
