    Hi,

I need to add new image size via add_image_size in my custom theme. How is the right way to regenerate only this size and generate new size(s) and optimize by TinyPNG only new sizes – can I use Regenerate Thumbnails or do you recommend any another way? It’s important for me make this changes only for new sizes and not for all.

    Thanks for help

    Hi Jakub,

    Thanks for your message!

Certainly, you can use the “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin to regenerate new images sizes. However, please ensure to set your Tinify plugin to “Do not compress new images automatically” (option 3) before you proceed. This makes sure that no images are optimized in the progress.

When you have regenerated all the image sizes, you can move on to the image optimization step. If you do not want to compress all image versions, you can select the specific versions you want on the Tinify settings page. If you do not want to compress all of your images in your Media Library, you also have the option to manually select which ones to compress. You can find detailed instructions at https://help.tinify.com/help/how-to-compress-existing-images-with-plugin.

Lastly, here is another article that might prove helpful in understanding how the plugin works: https://help.tinify.com/help/how-to-set-up-the-tinypng-wordpress-plugin

    We hope this helps!

    Hi @tinypng

thanks for quick reply – so next steps are:

    1. set Do not compress new images auto
    2. add new sizes to WP
    3. in plugin settings Select image sizes to be compressed – I choose only new sizes
    4. Regenerate Thumbnail bulk regenerate only new sizes
    5. Bulk compress all images via TinyPNG
    6. Set back settings Compress new images in the background (Recommended)
    7. Select image sizes to be compressed – I choose all wanted sizes

    Is this way right?

    Thanks

    Hi again,

That sounds spot on! Just a friendly reminder: after making any changes to the plugin settings, be sure to scroll down and click on the “save” button.

    Cheers!

    Hi again,

I do it but it optimize only new not optimized images when I run bulk Bulk Optimization – I need to optimize all images again with new sizes and preserve old images. I expect, that there is maybe some option which I must delete in db?

    Thanks

    Dear Jakub,

On the plugin settings page, you have the option to choose which image versions you’d like to compress. When you initiate the Bulk Optimization tool, it will automatically scan your entire Media Library, checking for those specific image versions that can be compressed. This means it not only scans newly uploaded images but also reviews your entire Media Library.

To verify whether all your images are compressed, you can go to your media library and switch to list-view. On the right side, you will find a column labeled “Compression”. In this column, you can see which image versions have been successfully compressed.

If you encounter any issues with the Bulk Optimization tool and find that certain image versions still cannot be compressed, I recommend trying to compress them manually. In list-view, you will find the option to manually compress an image. Here’s a guide on how to do that: https://help.tinify.com/help/how-to-compress-existing-images-with-plugin.

Should you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]. It would be helpful if you could include the following in your email:
    – A screenshot of your selected image sizes for optimization on the plugin settings page.
    – Screenshots of the compression details for a few images that are failing to compress.

    Hope this helps!
