• Having recently added webring code to my blog, https://mcrebbe.com/blog I am now rewarded with thge following message when I attempt validation:

“Sorry, I am unable to validate this document because on line 842, 856, 863, 867, 897, 902 it contained one or more bytes that I cannot interpret as utf-8 (in other words, the bytes found are not valid values in the specified Character Encoding). Please check both the content of the file and the character encoding indication.”

The problem is with the Ringsurf code at the bottom of the side bar (NOT the webring code in the footer).

Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a solution?

    Running on WP 1.5.2

    Cheers,

    MC

  • Just copy the type of text you have for your other links.
I don’t think the ring owners are too bothered about such tiny details so long as the links they supply are there.

Not always true, and the ringsurf folks are some of the more obnoxious ones if you change even a tiny little thing.

I have yet to find any webring code that validates out of the box, nor have I found any webrings which do NOT object to change of their proprietary coding.

Hmm ….. I’ll be kicked off a couple then ??

Well, true, they have to find you…. but me being the upfront person I am, I contacted the ringmasters FIRST to state that I would be making some changes so that the code would validate etc. At which point they let me do so, THEN checked, found the changes, and kicked me off.

Stupid. But that’s typical in some ways.

    Thanks guys,

    Sounds like it’s loose loose.
