• Hello, excuse me the question perhaps beginner, but came out a doubt. One person asked me to edit your site, but it was very strange story and did not know this person yet … When I connect me by filezilla, an unknown certificate warning appeared, and was wondering if there is any possibility of something bad happen when connecting the filezilla on a server that do not have full confidence.

You can ignore the unknown certificate warning in filezilla.

So, risks involving a theft of information from my computer or malware install, does not exists, even if the domain owner is malicious?

What EXACTLY does the warning say?

Only about unknown certificate, but after reading it, I came this question to mind if it would be possible to happen in some situation, theft of computer data, malwares, etc

Technically, yes. An unknown certificate means that someone (or something) else could be masquerading as the server you’re trying to connect to, and thus intercept your data (username, password, and files transferred). The certificate is not providing what your FTP client needs to prove that the destination is in fact the destination you are asking it to connect to, so it is warning you of that fact.

Ask this person if SFTP is an option instead (and to consult his hosting provider’s documentation and/or support department if it doesn’t seem readily available). As the S implies, it’s a much more Secure version of FTP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSH_File_Transfer_Protocol

Yes, on the intercept of files uploaded I am aware, but I wonder if there is any danger to my computer because I suspicious of the site owner

That’s good that you are aware.

That’s really a different problem not connected Filezilla or that warning.

If you are running a current anti-virus product on your PC or Mac then you’re probably alright. Although I would not recommend you download or install any executables from any site that you do not trust.

If you are downloading only PHP, text and CSS files and you are running an anti-virus product then you should be alright.
