Role back to the previous one after user log in

Aloha, has this changed since previous discussions on the topic?

This issue started only a few months ago, I have been using this plugin with the two other plugins for years without this role change issue.

I’ve looked at the history and don’t see any changes in Authorizer in the last year that would affect setting roles. Have you checked your other plugins for changes? A brief look into User Role Editor Pro looks like they changed how roles get set on multisite in July 2019:

You say “When I change a role for a user” but there are many ways to do that. Can you clarify what specifically you mean?

I’m using WordPress user profile to change the user role, but for the first time, I’m using Import users from CSV with meta plugin to import a group of users and set roles for them.

Authorizer attempts to keep the role in its Approved list in sync with the WordPress role via the user_profile_update_errors hook, which fires whenever a user is updated vie the Edit User page:

It’s possible that the other role plugins you are using are bypassing this hook when you use them to change the role, or something with multiple roles is providing unexpected data. If there is a separate hook provided by one of those plugins for when a user’s role is updated, I can also use that to change the Approved user role to at least one of the multiple roles chosen, which should prevent Authorizer from resetting the role on login.

Did you try commenting out the code Vladimir mentioned? There are 5 places in the codebase where WP_User->set_role() is called, and it would be nice to narrow it down.

Thank you for your response. I just disabled Authorizer from a few weeks ago and everything is fine now. I am using Authorizer for years without any issues, I know it is a conflict between Authorizer and another plugin. Appreciate your efforts, Thank you.
