    Hello,

Since the latest update the roles & capabilities are no longer working as intended.

There we have “Select the lowest role which should be able to access the following capabilities. NextGEN Gallery supports the standard roles from WordPress.”

However, when I select the lowest role it only displays the option for that role and nobody else, even the highest roles including the admin can no longer see those options assigned to the lowest role selected on the capabilities.

If I add all the capabilities to administrator I can see all of them but no body else. If I assign the capabilities to “author” then those capabilities are no longer seen by the admins.

    Please assist. Thank you!

    Hi @demaier,

I am sorry to hear of the issue but I couldn’t personally replicate it for any of my sites. I am wondering if aside NextGen’s Roles & Capabilities you are using a third party plugin that modifies the default WordPress user roles?

Can you please try the same on a staging or local installation to see how if the options will work for you there?

Yes, we are using “Members” which I’m sure you are familiar with. We have custom roles with custom permissions.

It is unfortunate that NextGEN doesn’t respect these custom roles and it always defaults to one of them in the “Other Options ? Roles & Capabilities”. So, every time we need to make any change to NextGEN options we have to reset these capabilities as it defaults to a specific role it decides to.

Before we used to be able to just select the lowest role in the “Roles & Capabilities” while saving the options, however, now we will have to set everything to “Administrator” then go into “Members” plugin and edit each single role and tweak the permissions from there as NextGEN overwrites that as well.

Would be awesome if NextGEN could play along with Members or at least remember the permissions and roles once setup.

    Thank you!

    Hi @demaier,

We are sorry but to be fair, we have never tested NextGen Gallery to work with a third party user’s roles editing plugin and to be honest , I am wondering to hear that it used to work in the past the way you needed it to work. I’ve checked with our developers and we couldn’t directly figure out what may happened in the latest version of NextGen Gallery so it would have now such side effects.

This being said, I will be happy to add it to our “feature requests” list in hope that it will get reviewed in the future.

    Thanks for your understanding

    Hi @mihaiimagely,

I’m not sure if NextGEN changed or Members changed but as I mentioned before, NextGEN even before would never “hold/memorize” the roles and permissions set in “other options”, every time I needed to make a change to the options I had to make sure I manually set the permissions to the appropriate roles every time or it would lose those settings.

As an alternative I can go to “Members” plugin and set it from there, each capability for each role, it is a bit more tedious since I have to edit each role. So if you can add to the feature request for them to review that section of your plugin that would be awesome!

    Thanks!
