Rollover image effect

    I can and have made numerous changes to my WordPress site using a child theme with css, but now I want to know how to change the html to add a roll-over effect. Basically, I have two header images, and the second one will show when the mouse rolls over it. Here is a site I found that explains the html, but I don’t know how to find the code to edit in my WordPress files, or the protocol used with child themes. I suspect I should not make direct changes to the WordPress files, but rather do it in the child theme folder.
