RSS Feed doesn't exist?

This might give you a clue.

When I look at https://51bits.com/feed/ in Chrome I see
51bits ? Page not found https://51bits.com UI Design & Development from Sydney Sun, 16 Jan 2011 00:10:52 +0000 en hourly 1

That seems like part of the page content is displaying where the URL it couldn’t find should be displaying.

When I go to https://51bits.com in IE7 the main site tells me
coming soon for IE.
When I go to https://51bits.com/feed in IE7 I see

No posts, because no content is displaying. None the less I am seeing the feed header.

I wonder if something you are doing is inadvertently redirecting the feed URL. Why would it work in IE7 and not in Chrome? You have no site on IE7 and the feed header works, and you have a full site in Chrome and can’t access the feed. Why?

That wasn’t quite it, but you led me in the right direction. The problem was, I’m using custom post types on my site; articles and projects—there are no “posts”.

When WordPress sees there are no posts, it looks like it just throws this error. All I needed to do was change the URL to this: feed://51bits.com/feed/?post_type=articles

Bingo.

Well, good. I didn’t think it would be exactly what I suggested. I’ve had tunnel vision myself many times and overlooked what later became obvious. I knew I was seeing something that might help you track it down.

Every link on your site is broken, not just the RSS. Every page, post, category, tag—they all return 404s. Have you got your permalink structure setup properly?

I ask this, because when I go directly to a page, for eg. https://blog.sunsettables.com/?p=4 it works. My guess is that your problem lies in the .htaccess file.

My permalink was set up for Month and Date. Once I set it as Custom the site works fine!
