• So I have a couple different blogs I run, the first which I have never had any issues with and is version 2.6 is here https://www.morbidgames.com/wordpress – the issue I have is with my second blog I am starting https://www.lasvegascrenews.com – the blog is using 2.7.1 and has been a headache for me with the RSS Feeds from day 1.

When I first installed WordPress 2.7.1 the RSS feed seemed to display fine, but it had trouble going through FeedBurner and other sites. The validation would give various errors as well (this is with the default install mind you) I then assumed it was just something I had installed so I removed the themes, deactivated all of the plugins, but still had the same problems. I then went through the wp-include.php file as well as the feed-rss2.php (and other feed files) and made sure to take out any blank spaces after any files, as much of what I read online pointed to this as a problem, though comparing the files to my 2.6 files I noticed my 2.6 have spaces after the php closing tag on many of them and they work fine.

For about 1 week the RSS feed loaded into FeedBurner and seemed to display fine as well as was added to my iGoogle page and even though it was giving me an error on the xml validator it still was working.

Now I logged in this morning and when I click on the RSS icon either in the url bar or on the buttons within the pages I get a “Internet Explorer can not display feed” on Windows XP with IE 7 as well as I get the error “The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format.” (PubSub:2) using Safari on OS 10.5.6

Is this a 2.7.1 issue and I should go back to 2.6 for this new blog or is there something I am missing?

  • You’ve got the javascript tracker for google-analytics in your RSS feed! No wonder it’s showing errors. The issue appears to be in your footer.php. If you check the source code for your site, you’ll see that the google-analytics script is being after the closing </html>. I think that’s what is causing your problem.

I have Google Analytics for WP installed, band I’ve switched it from the default footer, to the header, but it doesn’t seem to have changed anything.

But you got me thinking – I pulled up the other files and found that I somehow had put the google analytics into the index.php file of the wordpress directory – it’s working now, and I honestly can’t remember doing that with the analytics code.

    Thank you ??
