RSS feed malformed due to spam links

  • This is a common issue, and I’ve done my research on it as well as I can, but I thought I would see if anyone has a solution.
    The RSS feed and notifications stopped on my blog and the feed page at https://feeds.feedburner.com/thelovage gives you the error “error on line 190 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document”.
    The cause is this line of code at the bottom of the feed source.

    Now I know i’m going to get advice to completely clean my wordpress and lots of links to this article, https://smackdown.blogsblogsblogs.com/2008/06/24/how-to-completely-clean-your-hacked-wordpress-installation/

    My real question is whether I have any options BEFORE I attempt a full reinstall. Has anyone run into this same issue and actually found the source of the problem? I’m not a strong wordpress user and I’d rather fix the specific issue before I go whole hog and do the site over.
