RSS Feed not being gzip’ed/brotli’ed

    Hi guys,
    I noticed this evening that my RSS Feed isn’t being GZIP’ed or Brotli’ed, despite compression being enabled.
    Is there a feature I’ve missed to enable this/a reason it’s not gzipped?

    Hello @willstockstech,

    It doesn’t compress the feed because the feed has content type application/rss+xml, which is not listed as a type to be compressed.
    We’ll look into this as it is related to gzip compression.

    @vmarko was this included in 0.9.7.4? I noticed a changelog item of “Improved cache delivery of /feed URLs” but I can’t tell if that’s just caching?

    I have also noticed that W3TC doesn’t handle .webmanifest files being gzipped/brotli’ed either, is this also planned for the future?

    I tried to add both to my htaccess rules, but I’m still not seeing my feed or webmanifest files being gzipped/brotli’ed:

    SOrry for the late reply. No this was not fixed in the two previous updates as we had some more urgent fixes to attend to such as deprecation of older API versions scheduled on June 6, 2019.
    We are working on this as well as other fixes.

    Hi @vmarko

    Is this one still planned at some point? I noticed my /feed weighs in at around 220 – 250KB as standard still.

    This could/should be around 50KB using gzip (I have brotli enabled, so even less on that front).

    I use nginx -> apache -> WordPress if it matters?

    I am sorry for the late notice but as you may know, it was a wild ride past few months.
    Feeds should be handled well now.
    I’ve noticed that you are using Nginx+Apache. There is a possibility that in your env those files are handled by nginx while PHP by apache. i.e. apache rules don’t have a chance to act.
    Can you please check your nginx.conf and possibly add the rules manually there?

    nginx is simply reverse-proxying apache at the moment (which proxy’s PHP 7.3).
