• Hi All

Im building a website about videogames and thought it would be good to import rss feeds from other sites. Thing is all i get is a title and if someone clicks on that then they get taken to the site where the feeds come from. I wanted to use them to put stories, reviews etc on my site not just basically a link to another site. Is this possible?

If its not possible can someone please explain what the point of having RSS feeds is? From my perspective it just seems like a way to promote another site and take people away from my own site. Maybe im looking at this wrong or not doing the right thing to get what i want, either way help or your views on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dan

The point of RSS feeds is to help share the web and prevent reinventing the wheel.

For example, I want to make my own weather channel. Instead of developing tens of millions of pounds into weather systems, I can just take the BBC’s weather feed. If I want to, I can construct an interface in my website by transforming the RSS into HTML.

With RSS, you can have someone else’s content on your webpage and it is not considered as copying. It is sharing.

Edit: BTW, RSS is for the machine, not the user.

    Hi
Thanks for the reply. I completely understand what your saying, thing is i only get titles on my page, if someone clicks the title it takes them straight to the original website.

I have built a website that revolves around video games and thought it would be a good idea to populate the site with news, reviews etc taken from other sites, but as mentioned i only get titles which seems pointless, no one is going to stay on my site to read a title.

How do i go about having the actual news/reviews on my site?
Im using WP-RSSImport plugin. Please take a look at my site to see what i mean valueofgames.com

    Thanks

    Dan
