RSS Summary Option (does not stick)

  • Forgive me if this has been discussed, I have checked but so far only find posts that discuss the opposite of what I want (except one that is old with no replies). SO.

    I prefer to show the summary in my RSS feed and am now putting a summary in the summary box when I write a post; yet inside the “reading” section of the settings, my blog refuses to keep that setting and the next day or post or whenever I check the next time, has set it back to “full text” and always sends the full text to the RSS, never the summary I’ve put in the summary box.

    Anyone else have this issue or know what I can do to have it keep that setting? It’s pretty frustrating to want one thing but have your settings always changed without your request. ??

    (Oh this has not been an always thing, either, I’ve been using WordPress since something like the version before 1 and this only started acting this way with 2.5 or 2.6.)

    I am having the same issue and have posted on these forums for help as well, but with no luck. I am using wordpress 2.7. I found another thread where someone with 2.6 was having the issue as well.

    It seems to me, this option gets reset during periods of high pingback and trackback spam. It must be a bug in wordpress that is triggering it. I’ve done a lot of searching and I haven’t found a solution to the problem. I’m running the latest version of wordpress and it isn’t fixed in this version.

    I think we might have to wait and hope it will be fixed in the next release.

    Thanks for the reply, brap. I have not seen any correlation myself between traffic and the changing of the option but then again I probably don’t have the tools to do that. Interesting perspective.

    I have nothing new to add, it’s the same as it ever was. I just changed my setting back… again.

    Just wanted to add mine to the chorus of voices – I have the *exact* same problem as anela (I’m running WP 2.7.1 and have had the problem since 2.6-ish)
