• I’m confused. My wordpress works fine from the visitor’s end. All pages load quickly and there are no delays at all that I can tell. But the RSS and Atom feed links time out in every reader and validator. In Firefox or Internet Explorer, if I load the RSS URL I have to wait for about 2 or 3 minutes before the xml will finally show up. The same thing happems when I try to log in to the admin area: I click the login button and wait several minutes before it finally logs in. Once I’m logged in to the admin area everything seems to work at a normal speed except that publishing new posts seems to sometimes take a while, too. My first thought is that the database is moving very slow, but the only areas that are slow are logging in, RSS/Atom, and sometimes publishing a new post. I have several other database-driven sites on this same hosting account and they’re working fine. I’m running version 1.5.2. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Are you using the shortstats plugin?

Yes, I am. I’ve been using it for a while now without a problem. Has it become currupt?

Do a search on it…. lots of threads about problems with it. I’d bet if you deactivate it, you’ll see a major improvement….

Wow… Yeah, I deactivated shortstats and the RSS feed worked instantly again.

Doh!! I love Shortstats. ?? Guess it’s time to look for a new statistic logger.

    Yah, bummer that, it seems.

I know this is a little off-topic now so I wont’ drag it out, but any recommendations for a new statistic logger?

I can’t really recommend any WordPress-integrated statistic plugins, because I haven’t used any, but there are plenty to choose from: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Plugins/Statistics

For an external live statistics system (like ShortStat), I recommend Mint. It’s basically ShortStat v2, and well worth the $30: https://www.haveamint.com/

Took me WEEKS to figure out what went wrong with my feed! Thanks everyone for this topic.

I am not using anything – I have a vanilla installation of WordPress, and I see the same thing – not only for the admin, but for everyone.

I run on a https server. Now, initiallyI had to nicely change all the hardcoded https:// bits to https:// to get it working – can it be related to that?
