I am using the RSS widget and I have had complaints that the RSS feed doesn’t work when they want to subscribe. On investigating I find that they are clicking on the feed title next to the icon. The widget make this title a link to the home page of the blog and not to the RSS Feed (as they might expect). Clicking on the icon works, but not the title next to it, how can I change this?

  • Unless you provide a link to a page demonstrating the problem, no one will be able to offer much in the way of assistance.

My blog, I have given the widget the title of “Follow Me…” The widget makes the title a link, but not to the RSS feed, only the icon to the left of it. This is not the behavior most users expect.

Is that the default RSS widget from Appearance -> Widgets? If so, remove it. You should never pull your own RSS feed into your site.

That makes no sense, how can you give people an RSS feed if there is no link to it on the site? All I am trying to do is provide a link to a RSS feed to my readers. How else can they get a RSS feed if there is no link? I don’t understand.

The default RSS widget, is the only widget which has the title as a link that is the way it works by default, this is not something I have done.

The default RSS Widget is intended for displaying feeds from other sites on your site. It’s not the RSS link that’s the issue. It’s the fact that you pulling in posts from your own feed., This creates a sorta loop-back effect that can cause significant site performance problems.

If you want to add an RSS link to your feed, then use a Text widget and add something like:
    <a href="https://www.kimharding.net/blog/?feed=rss2"><img src="https://www.kimharding.net/blog/wp-includes/images/rss.png" width="14" height="14" alt="" /> Follow Me</a>

Thanks! That seems to do what I am looking for.

I have the same question, except that my RSS feed is NOT to my own site. Here’s my blog – last item in the sidebar.
The theme style makes ANY link in the sidebar #fff – but since the RSS feed title is a link, and it’s on a white background, it does not show up unless you hover.
How can I make the title in the RSS widget show only those words – not turn it into a link?
    Hope that makes sense…

PS, I found a link color that will show up against white background as well as dark green, but it’s a bit pukey.
Would still like to know how to modify the title in RSS widget, though.
