  • Hello @warmon

    I trust you’re doing well!

I’m sorry to hear that you have this issue. Although I see you have not opened a new thread with us so we could assist you. The Smush plugin doesn’t resize thumbnail images.

It can resize only original images only if you’ve enabled “Resize my full size images” and have added your own custom dimensions in there. Stil original images are on your site and can be restored, as these are not removed from your site.

If you need any further assistance we are happy to help.

    Kind regards,
    Nastia

I have had the same thing happen on my site and now all my images are useless for “featured image” settings. So how do I recover the original images?

    Hi @art137,

Sorry to hear about that. By default, when an image is uploaded, for example, a.jpg, WordPress will be saving as a-scaled.jpg. So Smush will be only resizing the a-scaled.jpg, the original image would be intact.

I’m afraid, there isn’t any one-step solution that we could suggest to recover in the free version of Smush as it entirely depends upon how the images are implemented on your website.

The easiest workaround would be to revert to an existing backup. If not, could you please open a support thread regarding this so that we could check and have a better idea about your issue to advise further regarding this:

The plugin should have an obvious statement for photographers.. I cannot recommend it for anyone who is an artist and needs their colors to come out properly.

    Hello there @warwickyoga

A lossy compression (Super Smush) and removing EXIF data (which can contain color layers etc) can indeed have visual changes in some cases, this isn’t a generic state though, as it is actually depending on the quality of the image and how it’s been saved before getting into WP.

If you need us to further examine your case, please do open a new topic in the support forums and we’ll gladly follow up. ??
