rules hierarchy and extra-costs

    Hi there, two cuestions :

    1/ I don’t understand well hierarchy beetween global shipping rules and zone shipping rule : how are they working ? By example, if I have some global rules applicated to one country, do they add them to the zone shipping rule of the country or do they substitute ?

    2/ in the case of specific costs (typically customs costs for one country, not dependent of the wheight) how can I manage it ? Is it precisely adding global rule or do I have to add it in the shipping zone rule and, in that case, how ?

    Hi,

    1. The global shipping method can be used in the following ways:

    – Instead of shipping zones. It often feels better to keep all your shipping rules on a single screen than spread them across multiple shipping zones.

    – Along with shipping zones. Let’s assume you have an alternative delivery option available to all shipping locations. Maintaining a single global shipping method might be easier than having a copy of it in every shipping zone.

    The global method does not interact with shipping zones. There is no way to link it from a shipping zone or vice versa. No hidden magic.

    2. Each matching rule produces a delivery option. So, a rule is required for each case you have. E.g.,
    – 0-10kg, not France => $7
    – 10-20kg, not France => $12
    – 0-10kg, France => $10
    – 10-20kg, France => $15

    WBS6 Preview, though, “squashes” matching rules, forming a single delivery option per shipping method. It can help reduce the number of rules you have:
    – 0-10kg, France => $7
    – 10-20kg, France => $12
    – 0-20kg, not France => $3

    Hi Dan thanks for the answer. Lets say I have a shipping zone which include 4 countries and that for 2 of these 4 countries I have to add a flat cost to the wheight based cost, how can I achieve that ? (because in the screen of rule settings I don’t have any field for that)

    Hi, create a rule for each case you have using the Destination and Weight conditions:

    – 0-10kg, not France => $7 (base)
    – 10-20kg, not France => $12 (base)
    – 0-10kg, France => $10 (base + customs cost for France)
    – 10-20kg, France => $15 (base + customs cost for France)

    Hi, thanks. What I thougth but not the best option as I have to add in one value two costs : delivery cost + custom cost. And not very clear for the customer too. The pro version don’t allow to have a rule like that by example :

    • 0-10K France = €7 (base)
    • 0-10K no France = €7 (base) + €3 (custom) = €10

    Hi, there is no dedicate field for customs cost. You can probably highlight the surcharge with the shipping option title, e.g., ‘Base’ vs. ‘Base & Custom’.
