    hi
I am developing an externally hosted wordpress site. I have used a covernews theme. I have created a number of posts and embedded links to RUMBLE and youtube videos on them. On the home page when these posts are shown they are shown as grey boxes. When I click a post on the home page and go to the specific post page the video shows and it will play. Why does the video no show as a still picture at least on the home page? I am embedding the video using the embed block.

  • Those grey boxes are supposed to be thumbnail images of the posts (named “Featured Image” in your WordPress post editor).

They can’t be videos, and WordPress does NOT automatically generate thumbnail images from videos.

So for every post, you’ll have to upload and set a specific image as the “Featured Image” which will be displayed as the post’s thumbnail on your website.

thanks. thats clear. If I add a featured image then it works on the home page but on the post page it shows the featured image and the rumble video box. How do I not show the featured image on the post page please?

This is a feature of the CoverNews them you’re using. Luckily, your theme’s author made it easy to toggle this feature ON/OFF.

Jus go to APPEARANCE => CUSTOMIZE => THEME OPTIONS => SINGLE POST OPTIONS and turn off the “Show Featured Image” toggle.

Note that this turns OFF the display of the featured images on ALL individual POST pages. The homepage and other archive listing pages — eg category, tag, and date archives — are not affected.
