• I’ve used Seriously Simple for seven plus years and it has been amazingly trouble free. Thank You.

I am having a problem with it suddenly, and it’s a bit troubling.

The message at top of page:

“Seriously Simple Podcasting has updated the process of managing your Subscribe/Distribution links, we recommend you download your current subscribe links by using this link.

Once you have downloaded your subscribe links, you can run the upgrade by clicking this link. You can read more about this upgrade here”

does not go away after “clicking this link”… and yet, to see if my podcast has updated in Overcast, newly published episodes do not seem to be “published” until I click it, or do some combination of saving the distribution links and clicking the link…

In addition, it seems like my default podcast has been set but that may be another issue so I’ll wait until I hear back from you to dive into that. I am worried that my work from last 7 years, and getting followers is in jeopardy, as for my own Overcast feed my podcast disappeared and I had to manually re-add it :/

would love some insight or assistance to figure out what might be going on. Thank You!

    Hi @haikuluke,
I’m not sure why this message is being shown to you. It comes from the old outdated code and is not actual anymore. Please ignore this message, and we’ll remove it in the next plugin version.

hmm, thank you… but also the plugin is not working properly… do i… re-install? I really really really value the hundreds of episodes in people’s feeds and continuing the project, so I am hoping perhaps you can help me troubleshoot that message and this issue of episodes not posting within the last month or so. Thanks so much!

    Hi @haikuluke,

It looks like there is a redirection issue on your site.

Your feed URL should be https://lukejanela.com/feed/podcast/reveries, but currently, it’s being redirected to https://lukejanela.com/music/reveries-1-melting-2/, and that’s why your new episodes are not being published.

Do you use any redirection plugin?

    Thread Starter haikuluke

    (@haikuluke)

Apologies for the delay, I realized today that response pings to this thread were going to junk.

I did have a redirect plugin that I was not using (I hope!) and I deactivated it.

Upon testing a test podcast episode post just now, the problem of not seeing said post immediately when refreshing my podcast in overcast does still exist after deleting that plugin… so it seems that wasn’t the problem.

I couldn’t see anywhere where that very strange url redirect is being set, I certainly wouldn’t set it to that in any situation… cache? (no idea what i’m talking about lol)

perhaps an issue (that I haven’t yet had in 5+ years) is that i need to combine the “default” podcast with the much more heavily used “not-default” podcast.

How could I do this and not disrupt people’s experience with my feed?

Attached are screenshots, one of what I mean by default and not default, and another of each podcast’s settings/options.

Along similar lines, if I try the “turn it off and turn it back on again” approach of re-installing seriously simple, is there a way to do so without interrupting subscriber’s experience?

I realize this is a little vague as I don’t know what I am talking about, and I appreciate your responses. Hopefully I can get this sorted without having to bug you much. Cheers!

And just to clarify for help troubleshooting: these problems started in the past month or so with no changes on my end. I rarely, at this stage in my site/podcast, make changes, add plugins etc.

two podcasts which I don’t need… how to “combine”?

The podcast that I have been using all this time options/settings:

the podcast that is labeled “default” but which i don’t and haven’t been using

    Hi @haikuluke,

I can see that removing the redirect plugin helped – now, feed https://lukejanela.com/feed/podcast/reveries is not being redirected, so I believe the Overcast issue should be fixed soon.

Regarding the default podcast. I can see there are 101 episodes in the default podcast and 596 episodes in the non-default podcast (Reveries). If you are sure you want to combine them and use only one podcast I would suggest moving all your episodes to the Default podcast, removing the non-default podcast (Reveries), and changing the default podcast URL to reveries after that.

So, there are the steps you can follow (please backup your database before doing it) :

    1. On Podcasts -> All Podcasts page, click the episodes number ( 596 ) – you’ll get the list of all Reveries episodes.

    2. Select all episodes, Edit option, and click Apply.

    3. Select Reveries (Default), and click Update.

    4. Go to the All Podcasts page, and make sure there are 0 episodes left on the non-default podcast (Reveries).

    5. Remove the Reveries podcast.

    6. Change default podcast slug to reveries.

    7. Open https://lukejanela.com/feed/podcast/reveries, and make sure you can see all the episodes you need.

Hey there, thanks so much for your patience and help.

I really want to stop bugging you but I do have more issues.

I went to consolidate the podcasts. A strange thing happens: when I click the number of episodes (600) I am shown 7 total episodes on subsequent page.

If I click the number of episodes of “default podcast” (103) I am shown 1 episode.

    gif of behavior here

I am willing to give access to show if that is needed

    ///

the other thing that is happening, which may be related to the above, is that last night, as an experiment after removing the redirect plugin, I posted a podcast episode. I checked boxes for both default and reveries podcast. Apple has not ingested it yet (and thus overcast). This was my original issue and is still in place after removing redirect plugin.

if you have time to take a look, thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

    @haikuluke

I also want you to fix that issue, so that’s totally not a problem that you’re asking here ??

How many episodes can you see when you go directly to the Podcasting -> All Episodes page?

Can it be that some episodes were not correctly assigned to the default Reveries podcast? Regarding the wrong number there – I know WordPress doesn’t calculate that number dynamically, and sometimes it can show the wrong results. I believe it will be recalculated when you create a new episode.

    (@zahardoc)

And, BTW, how many episodes can you see when you click the Default podcast number?

    (@haikuluke)

I am SO SORRY that my responses are so delayed and sporadic. I am having crazy times with my job and family trips. I want to ping here to keep this thread alive ??

How many episodes can you see when you go directly to the?Podcasting -> All Episodes?page?

I only see, when I go to Podcasting -> All Episodes, 7 total (1 draft)
    https://lukejanela.com/word/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=podcast

When I go to “Posts”, under the ‘Podcast’ Column there are hundreds, as indeed, most of my 700+ posts for last 7 years or so are podcast audio.

And, BTW, how many episodes can you see when you click the Default podcast number?

I only see (1) episode when I click the “Default” Podcast linked Number (which says 105 currently)

    Weird!

I will be combining all into one, the default, per your instructions, soon. I need to wait until yet another family trip this weekend before as I need to do it carefully.

Thank you again for all your help and patience ??

    Hi @haikuluke,

Thank you for your update. It looks like for some reason WordPress doesn’t show all your episodes when you click that number. I’ll try to investigate that issue.

Meanwhile, you can proceed without clicking the number, but directly from the page you screenshoted. So, your goal is to make sure, that every episode there has only Riveries (default) podcast assigned.

    (@haikuluke)

    Hi Serhiy!

    Apologies for delay… again

I finally consolidated all podcast episodes into a single default podcast.

Same issues persist: clicking on the number beside the name of podcast (696) shows only 7

If I go to “All Posts”, however, and click sort by/filter the column “podcast”, it properly shows all podcast “posts”

I am going to empty caches again… I don’t really know!

thank you again for all of your help ??

    (@zahardoc)

    Hi @haikuluke,

I think it’s because your episodes are under post post type, and not podcast. I don’t think it’s a massive problem since your users can still see all the episodes, and your default feed is up to date now. But if you want to fix it , you can try moving all your episodes to the podcast post type. Please let me know if that’s an option, and I’ll provide you with further instructions of how to do it. Otherwise, you can just ignore that issue.

    Thread Starter haikuluke

    (@haikuluke)

    Thank you Serhiy!

I think I would like to try it… for troubleshooting purposes the issue is:

? new, started about 2 months ago or so. for many years no issues and the “issue” is…

??the feed actually doesn’t update immediately, there is a non-consistent delay between posting and an episode being available on a podcast client

It’s not a big deal, it is actually working with this bizarre and kind of frustrating delayed posting, i just wonder with these type of things, what changed?

but yes, I would like to change post type, might as well do it right.

    thank you again so much
