• I’ve been putting off upgrading from 1.2 to 1.5 for ages.
However I feel it is now time to make a jump up from this old 1.2.
I see that there is now version 2.0 available but no instructions on upgrading from 1.2 to 2.0.
Am I right in assuming the recommended route would be 1.2-1.5 and then 1.5-2.0?
If that is the case, can somebody tell me where I can download 1.5 from as the only download link I can find is for 2.0?

I’m getting a major amount of hits from bots – currently I’m seeing some 3000 posts being made in my Blog a day.
Although they all wait in the moderation queue, will any features from 2.0 stop this kind of thing happening?

  • Yes, probably the best way is to go from 1.2 to 1.5.2 and then to 2.0.
Backup your DB and the files at every step. I mean before both upgrades!
    Older versions are here: https://static.www.ads-software.com/archive/
Using the proper plugins you can possible reduce substantially the spam. The most recommended 2 plugins are:

Based on moshu’s recommendation above, the Old Upgrade Information in the Upgrading WordPress article has been revised.

    Thanks for the posts.
I decided to take the pluge and was initially pleased to see all was going well.
The upgrade from 1.2 – 1.5.2 went extremely well and that is the one that I’ve been putting off for months.
However something didn’t quite go right on the 1.5.2 – 2.0 upgrade.
When it came time to run the upgrade.php script I got the following error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/prawling/public_html/blog/wp-includes/locale.php on line 61

When I attempt to access my Blog now this is the error that appears.
    Any ideas?

Delete locale.php and upload a new one.
    See what that does ?

    Thanks again people.
I’d mis-read the upgrade instructions and failed to delete the wp-includes directory before uploading all of the new files.
End result was that directory was of course from the 1.5.2 installation and not from the upgrade to 2.0
Deleted that folder and uploaded the new one from 2.0 and it now all works.

Updated my Blog from 1.2 – 1.5.2 and then from 1.5.2 – 2.0 in two more or less easy steps and the one and only issue I had was due to me not reading.
