Running with crontab?

I think the wordpress tasks run when a visitor visits any page and the page executes domain.com/wp-cron.php which keeps the schedule and runs tasks.

Since I want a faster overall user experience I’d like to automate these tasks. Could I do this by creating a script to run that wp-cron.php several times per day? Would that work?
