• ERROR: S3 Bucket “hewlett-turf” does not exist!

The AWS S3 bucket is displayed on the on settings page. As far as the plugin is concerned it does exist!

And, as far as I am concerned, as a years long user of this plugin it simply is not ready to be used on any live website. It is totally unreliable.

They hardly ever support or reply with any meaningful way.

If you backup locally, the plugin works fine but with AWS S3 (which is 50% of the cloud storage space) it fails.

Same here – I can select my bucket from the dropdown list but when I run a backup then the remote service fails saying that the “bucket does not exist”…?

    I found the culprit:

You need to select a S3-Service in the destination settings that exactly matches the bucket’s AWS-Region – if they differ then said error is being thrown / the bucket cannot be addressed…

This is quite un-intuitive IMO and most probably you could gather the region settings from the bucket and one wouldn’t need to make a selection…? Alternatively the UI should reflect this and at least include a text notice with regards to this.

Thanks for your feedback @leanderbraunschweig. I agree things could be made a bit more intuitive. I’ve noted your suggestion and we’ll work on improving this in a future version.

I concur. Once I selected the correct region backup to S3 succeed.

“An Amazon S3 bucket name is globally unique, and the namespace is shared by all AWS accounts.”

There is no use to simply select the region and then the bucket. The region and the bucket should be selected and THEN before displaying the available buckets on the drop down menu a check should be made so that only the buckets on that region is displayed. It is done like this:

    https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/API/API_GetBucketLocation.html

Maybe @leanderbraunschweig and I have convinced the publisher to make the necessary changes. Otherwise all they will gain is bad reviews and marks.

Is there an answer here for getting the same error with a MinIO server? I’ve manually set the region on both the server and in BackWPUp to be exactly the same, but I still get this error. Thanks for any help you can provide!
