I’ve been backing up a bunch of sites for 6+ months successfully to an S3 Bucket. I’m now in need to do my first restore. Upon either Downloading backup data (database, plugins, themes, etc.) or RESTORE same data, I get the same error:

S3 Error: Failed to download backup_2015….. Check your permissions and credentials.

Again, it’s connected okay, the Test Connection passes and it’s making backups okay. But cannot download or restore.

    Thoughts?

    Hi,

If the automatic download via the UD dashboard is proving problematic, then you can instead download directly from the Amazon S3 website – https://console.aws.amazon.com/console/home – and upload the files via FTP into the wp-content/updraft directory in your webspace.

    Thanks David.

I understand what you’re saying. To clarify though, if I want to re-install say just the “Plugins”, then would I just need to download/upload the plugins zip file? Or do I / should I do the entire set of zip files from a particular backup so UDP can see all of them?

Back to overall problem – is S3 thing this a common issue? A temporary bug/glitch? I’ve used UDP on 35+ sites with this very configuration in hopes that it was ‘the’ backup solution. (Granted, I never had to restore, nor tested the restore function) But if this is how we have to restore something, it doesn’t make it super user friendly (especially for my end-user clients). I’ve been considering upgrading, would this issue be solved with a paid license?

    Thanks,
    Blake

    That’s right.

Not a common issue (in any of our forums – we also have a paid one at: https://updraftplus.com/forums/ ). To get more info on the specific cause of your problem, turn on the debugging setting in the expert section at the bottom of the ‘Settings’ tab, and then try a download. A log file will then be created – you can get its contents using the ‘most recently modified log file’ link in the main status tab.
