    Hello

The current situation is as follows: my e-commerce site is running on https://www.example.com/shop/ and I need to move it to shop.example.com. I have created the shop.example.com domain and made a copy of the current site. Upon first access, Jetpack tells me that I have two possible choices: the first choice is to move the data from https://www.example.com/shop to shop.example.com and the second choice is to treat the two domains as two different websites. While I am working on shop.example.com, the https://www.example.com/shop version will need to remain online without any changes. Once my work is done, I will redirect all traffic to the new domain. Which choice should I make?

    Hi @supportoaraneus ,

Can you tell us more about the site/domain you plan to move to eventually, i.e., shop.example.com? Is it a development/staging site at the moment?

Your next actions will depend on what you want to do with the Jetpack data generated on both of your site URLs.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to go through our public documentation on Jetpack safe mode here: https://jetpack.com/support/staging-sites/.

This should help you identify different scenarios where you might want to treat your Jetpack connection as separate, or as staging and production.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

the situation is very simple: right now shop.example.com is a staging site. I need to make some changes that my client will need to validate, and then shop.example.com will take the place of https://www.example.com/shop/

    Hi there @supportoaraneus,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Based on your situation, it’s best to treat the two domains as separate within Jetpack for now, i.e., “Create a fresh connection”.

This will allow you to work on the staging site without affecting the live site.

Make sure to also refer to our documentation on staging sites, which outlines how to handle Jetpack in such scenarios.
