• Hi,

I want to change the ‘Site Address’ setting NOT the WordPress Address (URL) in general settings on my site. At the moment I have example1.com as WordPress Address and example2.com as Site address – I want to simply delete example2.com from the site address. Is it safe to do so?

Background: I want to do this as I want to use Migrate DB to move to new servers and in the process change the WordPress Address, which can be done as part of the duplication Migrate DB plugin supports. Unless I change the Site Address, Migrate DB shows the WordPress Address in its dialog.

Many thanks for your time, hope I get a reply!

I have looked through that page, although not word for word. It does not seem to state clearly that you can change this setting. I am 99% certain that it can be changed with no issue, but I know the other one will completely bugger up my site, so I don’t want to make a mistake. I just want an answer to my simple question!

    Thanks for your time.

I’m also fairly sure that when I first set up the site I had nothing in the box I mention and that the site worked fine, which is the reason for my confidence level.

The main part of the site is under example1.com and example2.com just points and shares things with example1.com

I gave you the answer. Use one of the methods in the page I linked to above.

So you’re saying that it is categorically not safe to simply delete the entry under Site Address and then save settings?

Yes – it is not safe.

OK, thanks, that’s the answer I was looking for. Cheers.

I have a follow up question, but I will probably need to open a new thread.

Is there an automated way to do what I want, i.e. have just one URL in both boxes, i.e. example2.com.

I don’t really want to follow the instructions on the linked page because I fear I would make a mistake and permanently damage my website/prevent myself from using wp-admin. Therefore I would like to use a plugin, if there is one?

(I previously used Duplicator for offline –> online and that did a lot of this itself, so I thought there might be a plugin for this purpose?)
