Sales Tax Issue

    Hi –
    I have a product I sell on my website and had set up to charge sales tax only for NY State as that is where I am located. It was working properly and collecting sales tax for just NY State until this week.

    Wordpress upgraded earlier this week and now sales tax is being charged to both CA and NY sales.

    I checked the settings per the previous Forum conversations and they do not appear to have changed. I had set up a flat tax of 8% for NY State, but now there are individual lines for different towns, as well as lines for the cities in CA where products were purchased from.

    I removed all of these individual lines and put back in the flat NY Sales Tax Rate and the individual lines kept being repopulated when I tested a CA or NY address in the Shopping Cart.

    Not sure what setting is off and hoping you can help me as I do not want to have to keep refunding Sales Tax to CA customers.

    * A screenshot of your tax settings under WooCommerce > Settings > Tax.

    * Please share a copy of your site’s System Status: You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.?

    Hi @robbikearns,

    Thank you for sharing your tax settings and system status.

    It appears you’re using the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin to calculate taxes. I’d suggest that you update the plugin to the latest version and purge the cache from your LiteSpeed Cache plugin. That might fix the issue. Please do this in a staging environment first before running the update on your production site.

    I updated the plugins and my site would not load. My host provider’s Tech support figured out that it was a conflict with the WooCommerce and WooCommerce PayPal Payment Plugins that were causing the site to not load. I deactivated them and was able to load the site, but obviously my product didn’t work.

    I reactivated the plugins and it worked, then stopped so I deactivated the PayPal plugin again. I tried to switch over to WooCommerce Payments and CA State Tax is still being charged on transactions being shipped to CA despite my being in NY State.

    Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.

    Seems like PayPal Payment Plugin is working again, but still calculating CA Tax on orders when it should only be collecting from NY.

    I’ve tried everything – Went through and changed over to WooCommerce Payments and back and it still shows Sales Tax for CA purchases. I guess I’ll just have to refund those until this bug gets worked out as it seems others are having a similar issue.

    If there are any other changes I can make please let me know as I would love to have this resolved!
