Same page links disappear

When I create in page links in my the text editor for a post, and then click over to the visual editor, my page link disappears. Anyone else having this problem or know of a way to stop it?

Example when Im in text editor:

<a id="step1">Step 1</a>

Then I change over to visual to make sure it looks ok.
When I change back to text I get this:

<a> </a>

They are empty….

If I update before changing over to visual, the links work on my site, but then dissapear again if I make some more changes and update again. seems strange to me.
