Same Post but Different Template by Category

I need to display posts differently based on their category (using a child theme with essentially single-cat1.php, single-cat2.php, single-cat3.php). The problem is when a post has multiple categories. Is there any functionality to differentiate based on the user’s activity?

Perhaps something based on where the user clicks the link to the post: (like my-site.com/cat1/post would use single-cat1.php, my-site.com/cat2/post would use single-cat2.php, etc).

Thanks for any help! I can’t seem to find any answers on this.

Context: The website is a listing of artists my client’s worked with, some of whom have done multiple programs with them.
