    Hello,
I’m considering using WordPress and host it at Godaddy.

However, I don’t quite understand the WP TOS:

    At www.ads-software.com, there’s this statement:

“WordPress does not have the power to take down or in anyway alter the sites that choose to use it”

while I found this on WordPress.com:

“there are a few categories of content and behavior that we don’t permit because we consider them harmful to the community”

    So my question is:

Are there different rules for WordPress software/plugins, and WordPress hosting?

  • WordPress gives you the opportunity to create a Website under their hosting.

Let’s pretend you will build a new Website named “James”, if you opt for using the WordPress as a host then they’ll provide a full operating WordPress installation acessible via the url: https://james.wordpress.com (eg.)

If you do so, then you have to follow their specific TOS.

However, if you choose to create a Website hosted by another provider then you have to follow the specific terms from this provider and WordPress won’t interfere.

Thank you, Mateus, for the super fast reply!

Then I begin to understand. ??

I wonder if you perhaps also could tell me if this means I’m allowed to advertise and use my own domain with the WP software, as long as I host it at another provider (i.e. Godaddy)?

As long as your provider allows it then you can advertise with no problem.

Also, WordPress is compatible with most of the well-known Ads platforms, so it will be pretty straight-forward to monetize your Website.

WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are two different entities: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

The WordPress software (what we have here on w.org) is available under the terms of the GPLv2. Here are those terms:

    https://core.svn.www.ads-software.com/trunk/license.txt

These terms allow you to use the WordPress software for any purpose, with no limitations of any kind.

They also allow you to both modify and redistribute the software, as long as you keep make any such modifications available under the same terms.
