    Hey there,

hope this is in the right forum.

Installed WP, started setting up the pages and deleted the sample page. Set to a static front page and picked the page I wanted.

Yet, when I – or others as a matter of fact – try to see https://www.timbuktistan.com
it will come up as a ‘sample page’ (‘hello world’ ‘this is just another wordpress site’).
When I’m logged in WP this doesn’t happen

Couldn’t find anything in the forums although I imagine that I – as a beginner – messed up and probably has a real easy solution.

    thanks in advance!

So you made a page and set it to make that page the home page?

    CMSHelpLive

    (@cmshelplivecom)

Have you written any content on that page? If not , then it might be post content showing on that page. In this case.

    1. Create one page and name it Home.

    2. Write /Add content in that page.

    3. Now from Appearance -> Customize -> Static Front Page ->Select Home page.

    4. Save changes.

Try this, if it doesn’t work, please write back.

hey there. thanks a lot for the replies

Yeah exactly Matthew. I’ve created several pages and set one called ‘Welcome to Timbuktistan’ (with content on it) as the static frontpage. So, basically I’ve already done what you suggested CMSHelpLive, but I did as you suggested, created another page called ‘home’ put content on it (featured image and a sentence) but the problem persists.

If you want to have a look: https://www.timbuktistan.com

You will see the ‘Just another WordPress Site’
If you click on ‘Hello World’, ‘September 2014’ 8in the ‘Archives’ sub menu) or ‘uncategorized’ (‘categories’ sub menu) in the left-hand Menu, you will be redirected to the WP-design I’ve set up. From there on you can navigate through the pages I created.

    thanks again!

Menus ?? … you need to create a custom menu and assign your pages to it.

Have a read through this to get started:

Hex LyleChamney. Thanks for the advice. Read through the page, made another menu and filled it with content. sadly this did not solve the problem!

maybe this is interesting: I tried to access the page with my phone and it works. but not from laptops and desktop computers

I’m not really sure how you managed to get it the way it is ??

Your root domain is still showing the recent posts; this is what is messing things up.

    – Pages > Add New > Title: Home > add some content > Publish
    – Settings > Reading > Front page displays: Static Page > select Home from the drop-down > Save Changes
    – Appearance > Menus > delete the Sample Page menu item > Save Menu
    – while you’re at it, Settings > Permalinks > Save Changes

Have you tried switching to a different theme?

@matthew – he’s using Twenty Fourteen so one would think that should work, but it’s worth a shot to try another ??

Hey guys, thanks again for all of the help.

Nothing worked out so I’ve decided to start from scratch this week, going to reinstall WP and use a different guide to set it up! I’ll give a shout once I run into trouble again (which I undoubtedly will)

have a good start to the week ??
