I have been using Evolve Lite 1.0 since 2014 on this web site (see link below). Love it, so flexible. I learned last year that I can’t update to a more recent version of Evolve without completely rewriting my site. OK. (I use a more recent version on a different site).

I recently (and ill-advisedly, I feel) updated to WordPress 5. Since then, if I edit a page or post in the Classic editor, clicking on Save goes to a ‘page not found’ error. OK, I’ll just have to use the Blocks editor, which saves fine though annoying in other ways.

But also when I edit a Contact Forms 7 form, clicking on Save does the same thing – page not found.

Can anyone suggest a workaround for the CF7 problem? Short of rolling back to WordPress 4.9?

  • Hello @licoricetwist,

sorry for any troubles you get. May I know if you have this issue with other theme, e.g. WP default theme? Thanks.

I don’t use any other theme, sorry. And it’s a live site in the middle of an important season, so I’m reluctant to play with changing the theme as a bunch of stuff might not work any more…

I thought of trying Healthcheck, but it’s not tested with WP 5

It’s hard to test it :(, can you try please enable WP Debug https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress to see if it writes an PHP error?

    That’s scary… I don’t know anything about php.

If I understand correctly, I add the line define( 'WP_DEBUG', true ); to the wp-config.php file – which I find via my cPanel file explorer… is that right?

yes, add that line, save and try to save the post to see if it runs an error. If you see an error just copy it here please so I can see it. then you can again disable the wp debug mode

Thanks. I’ve added that line and saved. And I’ve tried a minor edit to a form and get the same error message:
Not Found – Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.

Do I need to look in some specific (other) place to see what you mean by ‘runs an error’?

can you try to check error.log on your server yet? Please try these steps https://snapcreek.com/blog/wordpress-error-log-friend/

    (@licoricetwist)

OK, thanks – tried those steps, and for today the line says:
“[22-Apr-2018 07:54:40 UTC] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/mysqli.so’ – /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/mysqli.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0”

Oops, just found the line I ought to have changed… hold on I’ll try again.

    Hmm, no change.

This error seems to be an one I’ve had forever… July 2017 anyway. The time stamp is different, that’s all.

    This is the previous one:
[16-Feb-2018 02:02:36 Europe/London] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/mysqli.so’ – /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/mysqli.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

ok, from this error cannot find solution. I again recommend to activate default WP theme. Just backup your current stage with a plugin and simply activate the theme for few minutes and reproduce the steps so we will know if it’s the theme or not. evolve saves all changes in the database so you won’t lose options when you revert back to the theme.

    (@licoricetwist)

Even the oldest version of Evolve-Lite will save everything?

since first version evolve saves theme options in the database ??

    Thread Starter licoricetwist

    (@licoricetwist)

    ??

I’ve installed BackWPup. I click on Dashboard, that displays fine (even if I don’t understand it).

But when I click on the menu option “Add new job” and get a ‘page not found’ error again. Same when I click on the ‘create a new job’ link on the Dashboard.

Which seems to tell me that it isn’t the theme, it’s something deeper?

So I’m generating a backup via cPanel, which I’ve used before. That takes a copy of everything. When it has finished, I will do as you suggest and test it with the basic 2019 theme.
