When I add categories on my webshop and click on save the site keep loading for a minute or so and then I get this message:

    Error 503 Backend fetch failed
    Backend fetch failed

    Guru Meditation:
    XID: 776080717

    Varnish cache server

I go to ‘appearance’ – menu’s and then save menu.
    Then I get this error.
Good thing is that the new made categories are working and visable, but I don’t know why I get this error.
I have enough capacity and memory space.
    Thank you for the help

  • Hi @0108daniel,

Not sure if this is related to Astra or even if this is related to theme. Have you tried doing the same with a WordPress default theme as the active theme? Please try it and see how you go.

Please let us know how you go.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

Can I change the theme without any problems?
Not that I have to replace all widgets or plugins that changed if I change back to Astra.
If it’s safe I try to change the theme.

    Hi @0108daniel,

When you switch the theme to another theme then switch back again to Astra, everything should look the same as before. However, I still suggest you create a proper backup of your site. Just in case.

Please let us know how you go.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

I read different story’s about plugins that are not working, CSS that are empty or not working anymore.
Is there no other option before I use this option to switch from theme?

    Hi @0108daniel,

On WordPress, switching the theme from one to another should not cause any issue. The only expected thing is the layout that will look different, and this is normal. Once you switch back to the previous theme, everything should look and work as before.

However, glitch happens! And for some odd reason, the thing like what you mentioned, although it is very, very rare, can happen. That’s why creating a proper backup should be the very first thing to do.

Further, it would be even better if you can do this “trial and error” on a staging site, instead of your live site. Please check with your hosting provider if there’s a feature available to set up a staging site easily. As an alternative, you can use a third-party plugin like WP Staging to setup one.

    I hope it will help.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??
