Saved edits being erased after save failure

    I am having a recurring issue with the Stories plugin:

    – I work on web story graphics, saving my changes successfully

    – Randomly in the middle of my edits, I get an error/failure message either when trying to upload images (“failed to upload”), or when adding a link to the page attachment section (“invalid link”)

    – After receiving those failed upload or invalid link notices, I get a “failed to save updates” message when I click the save button

    – I am then forced to reload the page, and find that I have been logged out (even though I’ve been continuously active in the session for over an hour each time)

    – When I log back in, none of my edits from the session are saved–not even the ones that I had saved earlier in the session.

    This has happened four times now. I use this plugin on another WP site, and have never had this issue there.

    Could this be caused by a conflict with another plugin?

    Hello @cgadm22 and thanks for getting in touch. Sorry to hear about this issue you are having and thanks for the detailed explanation. To help you further with this please could you provide the following:

    Your Site Health information using this form.
    Is the site you are not experiencing this issue with on the same server as the site you are seeing this issue?
    When this happens do you see any console errors?

    It would also be very useful if you could provide a video of this happening? You can use services such as Loom for this.

    Thank you for the response!

    I just submitted the form.

    The other site is not on the same server.

    I don’t currently see any console errors, but I haven’t checked known to check this. I will make sure to check that as I work on this web story draft, and copy any errors if they show up.

    I don’t have a recording, but I will make sure to record this the next time it happens. I’m working on the web story now.

    However, I can’t predict when it will happen, as I am sometimes able to save my work and exit the stories editor before my work is erased.

    I did take screenshots the second time this happened, but they only show my edited slides — not the erased edits once the page reloaded, or the “failed to save” messages.

    @cgadm22 thanks for providing the information via the form. Could I please also ask who your sites are hosted with?

    How often does this occur for you? Yes if you could provide any screenshots or videos when this happens again that would be very useful.

    They are both hosted with Site Assembly, but not on the same account or same server.

    I’ve only been using the Stories plugin on the site where I’m having the issue for two weeks, and it has happened four times so far.

    I’ll make sure to take screenshots and/or video the next time this happens.

    @cgadm22 thanks for the further information. Could I just confirm a few more things with you.

    1. When going to Stories > Settings do you have the Video Optimization option selected?
    2. Are you getting this issue when trying to upload larger media files? Do you know the file sizes for any media that triggered this or are you able to share these via a Google Drive link?
